We have just finished our first week of outreach in Fiji. We arrived late on Tuesday, April 6th in Nadi. As we stepped off the plane the scent of tropical air filled our noses, and we could literally feel the warmth this place has to offer. After being picked up and driven to our new home at the YWAM base in Vunayasi we were all ready for a good night's rest.
We began our week speaking with Japanese students for an afternoon to help them learn English. It was both entertaining and stretching for some of us. The YWAM base here in Vunayasi also invited us to have intercession with them as well as lead worship for one morning. God definitely blessed us on both occasions, and it was a pleasure to connect with the staff and students here. We wanted to bless them in return so we volunteered to help clean the base. (Water + DTS students + Fijians = FUN!) Our team has been so blessed with great friendships and lasting relationships here in Vunayasi. We have also participated in door-to-door ministry, visiting the surrounding neighbors of the base, as well as children’s ministry with the kids from the neighborhood.
One afternoon we were able to go on a treasure hunt and it was amazing to see how God spoke to each of us individually and as a group. For example: Minsoo, Cheyenne, and Makayla asked God to speak to them about where to go and who to talk to. Cheyenne and Minsoo felt God saying they should go across the street into Jacks (a local department store) and Minsoo felt specifically that someone would ask him about his guitar that he was holding. We obeyed and walked across the street into the store. Needless to say that is exactly what happened and we ended up singing and playing worship songs out loud in the store where people stopped to listen. It was incredible. And we have most definitely discovered that listening and obeying to God’s voice is so important and also rewarding.
We have had many other opportunities to minister to the people of Fiji; spending the evening at a local church playing sports with the youth group, presenting dramas and testimonies to other churches in Nadi and connecting with local people. These have allowed us to build relationships with the Fijian people.
Thank you so much for all of your prayers and support! We look forward to what God has planned for us in the next weeks to come.
