Divine Expectations

"We're Trusting, Believing.... We're expecting something great!
It's going to happen.... here in this place."

These are the lyrics to an old hymn that have lodged themselves in me throughout the past few years.  The themes of trust, faith, expectation, and the imminence of what God is doing are so encouraging and uplifting!  Consider who He is - He is the one who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. (Eph. 3)  Simple faith is enough, by His grace, for impossibilities to not only become possible, but to actually HAPPEN! There is no match for His creative abilities and supernatural ability to give life.

But that's not all... He has called us to walk in redeeming relationship with Him, and gifted us to participate in bringing life to the places of our past that are like the dry bones that Ezekiel speaks to (Ezekiel 37).

Have you ever stopped to consider what it must have felt like to be in Ezekiel's shoes that day?  Here was a man who was looking out over a valley full of dead, dry bones.  These were bones of dead hopes, broken dreams, utter destruction.  These were men who hadn't even received a proper burial (consider what that implies regarding the devastation that had preceded this scene)!  When God asked Ezekiel if these dry bones could live - his only response was that "only You (God) can know that"... does this sound to you like faith that will move a mountain or see a miracle?  Maybe not.  But wait!  Perhaps we have ruled out the miracles in our own lives prematurely?.... God doesn't seem to notice Ezekiel's uncertainty - and has him speak life so that he will know that God is GOD!

Here at YWAM Chico... we are in a season of revival.  We are praying and seeking God's face, and trusting that He is bringing new life to the "dry bones" of past ministries and dreams and visions, and strengthening each person who is here to walk by faith and to live intimately with Him.  We are spending time listening to His guidance, and stepping out by faith to agree with the truth that He alone knows our potential and He alone is the Giver of life - and that He has called us to participate in this great adventure, that we may know that He is the Lord! (37:6)

This is the season for faith to arise.  This is the season for the impossible to take place.  This is the season for us to join the Father as He brings hope and restoration.  He is saying - "SPEAK My words of life, and behold what I will do!  I don't mind that you have a hard time believing it can happen.  I am ready to respond as soon as you open your mouth..."

God spoke to Ezekiel, and he responded beyond his own ability to understand how God would do what he said.  This is the same God who speaks to us.  Wherever you are, whatever your current situation: what are you "Trusting, Believing... Expecting" God to do today?  Let's stand up together and believe that "it's going to happen... here in this place!"

Ezekiel 37

A Valley of Dry Bones
1 The Lord took hold of me, and I was carried away by the Spirit of the Lord to a valley filled with bones. 2 He led me all around among the bones that covered the valley floor. They were scattered everywhere across the ground and were completely dried out. 3 Then he asked me, “Son of man, can these bones become living people again?”
“O Sovereign Lord,” I replied, “you alone know the answer to that.”
4 Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say, ‘Dry bones, listen to the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! 6 I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”
7 So I spoke this message, just as he told me. Suddenly as I spoke, there was a rattling noise all across the valley. The bones of each body came together and attached themselves as complete skeletons. 8 Then as I watched, muscles and flesh formed over the bones. Then skin formed to cover their bodies, but they still had no breath in them.
9 Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to the winds, son of man. Speak a prophetic message and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, O breath, from the four winds! Breathe into these dead bodies so they may live again.’”
10 So I spoke the message as he commanded me, and breath came into their bodies. They all came to life and stood up on their feet—a great army.
